(Turkey) Ham Fried Rice
(Turkey) Ham Fried Rice is a really quick and easy recipe that can be eaten as a meal by it’s self or served as a side dish. The ingredients are simple and this recipe can easily be customized depending on your preferences. Love the scrambled eggs (we do!)? Add more. Don’t care for peas? Use less. It’s that easy. I tend to go easy on the soy sauce, but my husband loves it. I end up putting the bottle of it in the table so he can add as much as he wants to his individual serving of it. I even pull out a serving of it, before adding any soy sauce, for our 8 month old to chow on, minus the added sodium. Everyone is easily made happy.
Even though it’s call “fried rice,” nothing is actually fried and there is no oil in it. 🤷🏼♀️ I make ham fried rice as a complete dinner meal for our family. It’s one of my husband’s favorites. I use turkey ham in lieu of pork ham. Our grocery store only offers turkey ham in a precooked form, which saves me a step during the cooking process. I’ve made this before with pork ham, both precooked and uncooked versions. If you’re using an uncooked meat, I’d simply scrambled the eggs then add in the uncooked meat to cook through before adding the peas and rice. Our grocery store even offers pork ham in a diced form which can save you a step during the prep.
Because the turkey ham comes in a pretty large package, I usually cook Ham Fried Rice and this awesome Hash Brown Quiche the same week to help use up the meat. I love having two meals easily planned and being able to use up ingredients in full. Do you have a favorite set of meals you make to use up a single ingredient?
2 cups cooked rice, brown or white rice
1 cup diced turkey ham, or ham
1/2 cup frozen green peas
2-3 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
1. In a medium-sized pot, boil water and cook 2 cups rice according to directions on the packaging.
2. While the rice is cooking, scramble the eggs in a large skillet.
3. When scrambled eggs are cooked, mix in 1/2 cup frozen peas and 1 cup diced turkey ham. Mix evenly.
3. Add in 2 cups cooked rice and 2-3 tablespoons soy sauce. Mix throughly and heat until peas and ham are warmed through.
4. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
